How Project Index handles contractor contributions, alert registrations and the information needed to operate this service.

Last updated: 2 October 2026

01

This policy applies when you visit Project Index, submit a contractor rate, register for job or benchmark alerts, or use an administrator account. Project Index is responsible for deciding how personal data collected through this service is used.

Rate submissions are designed to be anonymous: the form does not ask for your name, email address, employer or client. Please do not include personal or confidential information in the specialism field.

02
  • Rate contribution data: role, day rate, region, IR35 status, years of experience, sector, specialism and the date of submission.
  • Job-alert data: your email address, selected role and registration date.
  • Administrator data: account email address, authentication information and records needed to keep the private administration area secure.
  • Technical data: information routinely sent when a website is used, such as browser or device type, pages requested, approximate location derived from an IP address, timestamps and security logs. Availability depends on our hosting and analytics configuration.
03
  • To produce, review and improve aggregated UK contractor-rate benchmarks and market intelligence.
  • To register your interest in relevant contract opportunities or benchmark updates and, when that service launches, send the alerts you requested.
  • To operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the website and private administration area.
  • To prevent misuse, investigate security issues and comply with legal obligations.
04

Under UK data-protection law, we rely on consent where you ask to receive email alerts. You can withdraw that consent at any time. We rely on our legitimate interests to operate and secure the service, understand usage, prevent abuse and create aggregated contractor-rate intelligence, provided those interests do not override your rights. We may also process data where needed to meet a legal obligation.

05

Individual rate submissions are kept private and are not published as individual records. They may be cleaned, grouped with other data and used in aggregated benchmarks, ranges, trends and analysis. We remove duplicates, obvious errors and outliers before submissions inform the market figures.

Because anonymous submissions are not linked to an identity, we may be unable to identify or retrieve a particular submission later. Aggregated or genuinely anonymised information is not personal data and may be retained and used for market analysis.

06

Project Index may use essential browser storage or cookies to provide security, remember an administrator session and keep the website working. We do not currently use the public rate-submission or job-alert forms to place advertising cookies. If non-essential analytics or marketing cookies are introduced, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated first.

07

Information is stored in Project Index's private hosted database. Access to identifiable alert and administrator data is restricted to authorised administrators and service providers that help us host, secure and operate the service.

We do not sell personal data. We may disclose it where required by law, to protect rights or security, or during a business reorganisation subject to appropriate safeguards. Some technology providers may process data outside the UK; where that happens, we use the protections required by UK data-protection law.

08

We retain alert registrations while they remain relevant to the requested service, until consent is withdrawn, or until the data is no longer needed. Account and security records are kept only as long as needed to administer and protect the service. Anonymous rate data may be retained to support historic market analysis.

We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, including restricted administrative access and database access controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we review controls as the service develops.

09

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, transfer, or an objection to processing. You may withdraw consent to alerts at any time. These rights may be limited where data is genuinely anonymous or where the law permits us to retain it.

To make a privacy request, use the official Project Index contact details published on this website and tell us the email address connected with your request. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Project Index is intended for working professionals and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
